Este trabalho tem como objetivo descrever o desenvolvimento da Rede PICS UFRJ, composta por professores e técnicos da Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) com formação em Práticas Integrativas e Complementares em Saúde (PICS). A rede foi criada para promover a expansão e disseminação do conhecimento em PICS por meio de esforços colaborativos voltados ao ensino, pesquisa, extensão e assistência.
A Rede PICS UFRJ foi formada em março de 2018, em reunião com professores, técnicos e estudantes de diversos departamentos da universidade, recebendo reconhecimento institucional em outubro de 2018 pelo Conselho Deliberativo do Centro de Ciências da Saúde.
Os objetivos iniciais da rede incluíam facilitar a comunicação e interação entre os membros; expandir o conhecimento sobre PICS por meio da criação de disciplinas de graduação ou pós-graduação e cursos de extensão para informar ou capacitar o público; promover encontros científicos para divulgação das práticas integrativas; estimular o desenvolvimento de pesquisas e atividades de extensão em PICS; e desenvolver ações de cuidado com PICS voltadas ao público interno e externo da universidade.
Em novembro de 2018, realizou-se o III Encontro PICS UFRJ, organizado pela rede, cujo tema central foi o cuidado com PICS em diferentes espaços da universidade, além da apresentação de projetos de pesquisa e extensão em andamento. No campo da educação, discutiu-se a inclusão de PICS em cursos de graduação e pós-graduação, com foco na perspectiva de criação do curso de Graduação em Musicoterapia na UFRJ. No ano seguinte, o curso de graduação em Musicoterapia foi criado e a disciplina optativa “Introdução às Práticas Integrativas e Complementares em Saúde” teve início, oferecida conjuntamente pelos cursos de Enfermagem, Farmácia, Medicina e Nutrição no Centro Multidisciplinar UFRJ-Macaé.
Ao final de 2020, a Rede PICS UFRJ realizou um seminário interno online, reafirmando os objetivos anteriores. Contudo, o isolamento social e o trabalho remoto decorrentes da pandemia dificultaram a manutenção das atividades planejadas. Em 2024, o IV Encontro PICS foi realizado na UFRJ, com o objetivo de revitalizar a rede e discutir as atividades desenvolvidas na universidade, incluindo mesas-redondas sobre ensino, pesquisa, extensão e assistência.
Em 2020, a pandemia impactou diretamente a rede. Devido ao isolamento social e ao excesso de atividades online, membros da rede afastaram-se por doença, interrompendo atividades de 2021 a 2023. Outro fator que restringiu o desenvolvimento da rede foi a dificuldade em expandir atividades de assistência com práticas integrativas ao público interno e externo, devido à baixa conscientização sobre sua importância e à ausência de uma organização institucional que promovesse a implementação efetiva das PICS na universidade.
No planejamento do IV Encontro PICS, foi realizada uma pesquisa via Google Forms sobre as atividades envolvendo práticas integrativas na universidade. Participaram 20 professores e 13 técnicos. Os professores, de diferentes unidades acadêmicas no Rio de Janeiro e em Macaé, relataram que as atividades enfatizam mais Ensino e Pesquisa do que Extensão, sendo que apenas professores do curso de Musicoterapia desenvolvem atividades de assistência. As PICS mais citadas foram: Plantas Medicinais e Fitoterapia, Reiki, Terapia Floral, Meditação, Yoga, Musicoterapia e Ayurveda.
Os técnicos com formação em PICS são poucos e distribuídos em diferentes unidades do Rio de Janeiro. Eles informaram que suas atividades enfatizam a assistência mais do que o ensino, pesquisa e extensão. As PICS mais citadas foram: Medicina Tradicional Chinesa, Terapia Floral, Reiki, Musicoterapia, Homeopatia, Aromaterapia e Auriculoterapia.
As iniciativas de ensino mais antigas são do curso de Farmácia, com programas de graduação e pós-graduação, seguidas pelo curso de graduação em Musicoterapia e pela disciplina optativa sobre PICS em Macaé. Em 2024, outro curso de Introdução às PICS começou no Rio de Janeiro entre os cursos de graduação em Musicoterapia, Enfermagem, Terapia Ocupacional e Farmácia.
Na assistência à população, técnicos desenvolvem atividades há mais tempo no Hospital Universitário São Francisco de Assis (HESFA) e na atenção primária. Professores do curso de Musicoterapia e técnicos oferecem atendimentos em maternidades, Instituto de Psiquiatria, Instituto de Neurologia e Escola de Música. O Setor de Humanização e Acolhimento realiza assistência ao público interno há vários anos, com técnicos e voluntários oferecendo cuidados por meio de diferentes PICS, promovendo a saúde de estudantes, técnicos e professores.
Em relação à extensão e pesquisa em PICS, constatou-se que são iniciativas individuais com integração limitada dentro da rede. Ao final do IV Encontro PICS, discutiu-se a necessidade de criar um Centro de Saúde Integrativa na UFRJ, que facilitaria a integração e o desenvolvimento das PICS, ampliando ensino, pesquisa, extensão e assistência ao público interno e externo.
Criar programas de Extensão e Pesquisa em PICS para integrar participantes da comunidade acadêmica, ampliando conhecimento, disseminação científica e cuidado à comunidade. É essencial institucionalizar Centros de Saúde Integrativa em universidades públicas para expandir o conhecimento e a atenção em PICS.
This paper aims to describe the development of the PICS UFRJ Network, composed of professors and technicians from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) with training in Integrative and Complementary Health Practices (PICS). The network was created to promote the expansion and dissemination of PICS knowledge through collaborative efforts focused on teaching, research, extension, and assistance. The PICS UFRJ Network was formed in March 2018 at a meeting attended by professors, technicians, and students from various university departments. The Network received institutional recognition in October 2018 from the Deliberative Council of the Center for Health Sciences.The Network's initial objectives were to facilitate communication and interaction among members, expand knowledge about PICS by creating undergraduate or graduate courses and extension courses to inform or train the public, promote scientific meetings to disseminate integrative practices, stimulate the development of PICS extension and research, and develop actions focused on PICS care for the university's internal and external public. In November 2018, the III PICS Meeting of UFRJ was held, organized by the Network. The central theme of this meeting was PICS care in different locations of the university, as well as the presentation of research and extension projects developed at that time. In the field of education, the inclusion of PICS in undergraduate and graduate programs was discussed, with a focus on the prospect of creating a Music Therapy Course at UFRJ. The following year, the undergraduate course in music therapy was established, and the elective course "Introduction to Integrative and Complementary Health Practices" began, offered jointly by the nursing, pharmacy, medicine, and nutrition courses at the UFRJ-Macaé Multidisciplinary Center. At the end of 2020, the PICS UFRJ Network held an internal online seminar in which the previous objectives were reaffirmed. However, the shift to online work processes and social isolation due to the pandemic made it difficult to maintain these objectives and scheduled activities. In 2024, the IV PICS Meeting was held at UFRJ, aiming to revitalize the PICS UFRJ Network, disseminate and discuss the activities carried out at the university.Round tables were held to discuss teaching, research, extension, and assistance at UFRJ.
In 2020, the pandemic struck. Due to the consequences of social isolation and excessive online work, Network members took leave due to illness, interrupting activities from 2021 to 2023. Another factor that restricted the Network's development was the difficulty of expanding assistance activities with integrative practices to the internal and external public due to a lack of awareness about their importance and the absence of an institutional organization that promotes their effective implementation at the university.
When planning the IV PICS Meeting, a Google Form survey was conducted on activities involving integrative practices at the university. Twenty professors and thirteen technicians responded to the survey. The professors are from different academic units in Rio de Janeiro and Macaé, and they noted that the activities emphasize Teaching and Research more than Extension. Only professors from the undergraduate course in music therapy develop activities in assistance. The most cited PICS were: Medicinal Plants and Phytotherapy, Reiki, Floral Therapy, Meditation, Yoga, Music Therapy, and Ayurveda. The technicians with PICS training are few in number and are located in different units in Rio de Janeiro. They responded that their activities emphasize assistance more than teaching, research, and extension. The most cited PICS were: Traditional Chinese medicine, floral therapy, Reiki, music therapy, homeopathy, aromatherapy, and auriculotherapy. The oldest teaching initiatives are from the Pharmacy Course, with undergraduate and graduate programs. Next is the undergraduate Music Therapy Course and the elective course about PICS in Macaé. In 2024, another Introduction to PICS course was started in Rio de Janeiro among the undergraduate courses in Music Therapy, Nursing, Occupational Therapy, and Pharmacy. In healthcare, care for the population has been developed by technicians for a longer time at the São Francisco de Assis Teaching Hospital (HESFA), in primary healthcare. Teachers from the Music Therapy Course and music therapy technicians provide care for the population at the Maternity School, Institute of Psychiatry, Institute of Neurology, and School of Music. The Humanization and Welcome Sector has developed assistance for the internal public for several years, with technicians and volunteers offering care through different PICS aimed at promoting the health of students, technicians, and teachers. Regarding the extension and research of PICS, it has become clear that these are individual initiatives with limited integration within the network. At the conclusion of the IV PICS meeting, the need to establish an Integrative Health Center at UFRJ was discussed. This center would facilitate the integration and development of PICS, enabling the expansion of teaching, research, extension, and assistance to internal and external public.
Create Extension and Research Programs in PICS to integrate participants from the academic community. These programs would expand knowledge and scientific dissemination while contributing to community care. It is essential to institutionalize Integrative Health Centers in public universities to expand knowledge and care in PICS.
