Este relato apresenta a experiência da Coordenação de Práticas Integrativas e Complementares em Saúde (PICS) da Secretaria Municipal de Saúde de Ribeirão Preto (SMS-RP) em relação à capacitação profissional em auriculoterapia no Sistema Único de Saúde (SUS) e à integração dessa prática terapêutica na rotina das unidades de saúde municipais.
A auriculoterapia é uma técnica terapêutica que promove a regulação psicofísica do indivíduo por meio da estimulação de pontos específicos no pavilhão auricular. Evidências reforçam sua alta aceitação pelos pacientes, segurança e eficácia, com efeitos positivos sobre distúrbios físicos, psicológicos e mentais, podendo ser utilizada como intervenção preventiva e terapêutica.
Com o objetivo de aumentar o número de profissionais capacitados em auriculoterapia na atenção primária e ampliar o acesso da população a esse recurso terapêutico, o Protocolo Municipal de Auriculoterapia foi publicado em novembro de 2022. Em janeiro de 2023, foi estabelecida parceria com a Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina (UFSC) para oferecer capacitação profissional em auriculoterapia, designando o município como Polo de Treinamento Prático. O estágio prático contou com o apoio do Centro de Mindfulness e Terapias Integrativas (CEMIT) da Escola de Enfermagem de Ribeirão Preto da Universidade de São Paulo (EERP-USP), que forneceu suporte logístico e estrutural.
A implementação da auriculoterapia no SUS de Ribeirão Preto revelou desafios como a necessidade de educação profissional contínua, aquisição regular de materiais e ajustes nas rotinas de atendimento para garantir a incorporação efetiva da prática pelos profissionais municipais. A adesão ao serviço exigiu apoio da gestão local, engajamento das equipes, articulação intersetorial dentro da SMS-RP e divulgação da prática junto à comunidade.
Ribeirão Preto foi designada como polo para as atividades práticas de duas edições do curso de capacitação, realizadas em maio de 2023 e junho de 2024. O público-alvo incluiu profissionais da Atenção Primária à Saúde, equipes multiprofissionais da atenção básica, atendimento domiciliar, clínicas de rua e Centros de Atenção Psicossocial (CAPS). Foram oferecidas 463 vagas, sendo 245 destinadas a profissionais de Ribeirão Preto e 218 abertas a profissionais de outras regiões do Brasil. Todas as vagas do município foram preenchidas; entretanto, 165 profissionais (67%) concluíram todas as etapas de capacitação e receberam certificação.
Após dois anos de capacitação, o número de profissionais qualificados em auriculoterapia na rede municipal aumentou 546%, passando de 37 em 2022 para 202 em 2024. O número de unidades de saúde oferecendo auriculoterapia cresceu 700%, de 6 em 2022 para 42 em 2024, cobrindo 66,7% das 63 unidades elegíveis. O registro de procedimentos de auriculoterapia no sistema de informação municipal aumentou 430%, de 2.189 em 2022 para 9.417 em 2024. A prática passou a ser oferecida individualmente e em grupo, beneficiando pessoas com diabetes, dor crônica, disfunção temporomandibular (DTM), necessidade de cessação do tabagismo, ansiedade, depressão, bem como profissionais de saúde dos serviços.
A experiência em Ribeirão Preto demonstra caminhos viáveis para a expansão das PICS no SUS municipal, com ênfase na capacitação profissional, regulamentação da prática, articulação intersetorial e financiamento. A iniciativa possibilitou ampliar o acesso à auriculoterapia de forma segura, baseada em diretrizes nacionais e alinhada ao Protocolo Municipal de 2022, facilitador fundamental do processo. A educação continuada mostrou-se ferramenta poderosa para engajamento das equipes e para a melhoria da qualidade do atendimento em auriculoterapia.
Entre os desafios identificados estão a necessidade de sustentar ações de capacitação, garantir aquisição contínua de insumos e aprimorar estratégias de monitoramento e avaliação, promovendo atenção integral, humanizada e multiprofissional no território.
This report presents the experience of the Coordination of Integrative and Complementary Health Practices (PICS) of the Municipal Health Department of Ribeirão Preto (SMS-RP), regarding the professional training in auriculotherapy within the Brazilian Unified Health System (SUS) and the integration of this therapeutic practice into the routine of municipal health units.
Auriculotherapy is a therapeutic technique that promotes psychophysical regulation of the individual through stimulation of specific points located on the auricular pavilion. Evidence has reinforced its high patient acceptability, safety, and effectiveness, with positive effects on physical, psychological, and mental disorders. It can be used both as a preventive and therapeutic intervention.
Aiming to increase the number of trained professionals in auriculotherapy within primary care and to expand the population’s access to this therapeutic resource, the Municipal Auriculotherapy Protocol was published in November 2022. In January 2023, a partnership was established with the Federal University of Santa Catarina (UFSC) to provide professional training in auriculotherapy, designating the municipality as a Practical Training Hub. The practical stage was supported by the Center for Mindfulness and Integrative Therapies (CEMIT) of the University of São Paulo at Ribeirão Preto College of Nursing (EERP-USP), which provided logistical and structural support.
The implementation of auriculotherapy in Ribeirão Preto’s SUS revealed several challenges, such as the need for continuous and ongoing professional education, regular acquisition of materials, and adjustments in care routines to ensure the effective incorporation of the practice by municipal professionals. Service adherence required support from local management, team engagement, intersectoral articulation within SMS-RP, and dissemination of the practice to the community.
Ribeirão Preto was designated as a hub for the practical activities of two editions of the training course, held in May 2023 and June 2024. The target audience included Primary Health Care professionals, multidisciplinary teams in basic care, home care, street clinics, and Psychosocial Care Centers (CAPS). A total of 463 spots were offered, with 245 reserved for professionals from Ribeirão Preto and the remaining 218 open to professionals from other regions of Brazil. All spots allocated to the municipality were filled; however, 165 professionals (67%) completed all training stages and were certified.
After two years of training, the number of professionals qualified in auriculotherapy in the municipal network increased by 546%, from 37 in 2022 to 202 in 2024. The number of health units offering auriculotherapy grew by 700%, from 6 in 2022 to 42 in 2024, covering 66.7% of the 63 eligible units. The number of auriculotherapy procedures registered in the municipal information system increased by 430%, from 2,189 in 2022 to 9,417 in 2024. The practice began to be offered both individually and in group settings, benefiting people with diabetes, chronic pain and temporomandibular joint dysfunction (TMJ), smoking cessation needs, anxiety, depression, as well as healthcare professionals within the services.
The experience in Ribeirão Preto demonstrates viable pathways for expanding PICS within the municipal SUS, emphasizing professional training, regulation of practice, intersectoral articulation, and financing. This initiative enabled expanded access to auriculotherapy in a safe manner, based on national guidelines and aligned with the 2022 Municipal Protocol, which served as a key facilitator of the process. Continuing education has proven to be a powerful tool for team engagement and for enhancing the quality of auriculotherapy care.
Identified challenges include the need to sustain training actions, ensure the continuous acquisition of supplies, and improve monitoring and evaluation strategies, thereby promoting comprehensive, humanized, and interprofessional care within the territory.
